A major portion of our knowledge is not acquired through experiences, but rather through listening and reading. A good number of our beliefs and views come from texts, many of which shape the language and culture. We are not always conscious of our cultural heritage and yet it has a strong influence on our self-image. This applies more or less to all people, even those who can hardly read. Just like technical or medical developments affect us, even though we do not really understand them.
After having dealt with texts from my childhood and adolescence for “Educational Soup,” the work called “Brain Kit” consists of a collection of texts I have read as an adult. The buildings are constructed with alphabet noodles. The side of each building is a quotation from a book particularly memorable for me for various reasons.
They are not really buildings, but rather memory storage spaces. A metaphor for the place in the brain, something akin to our library. After all, more and more is acquired and added on as long as we continue reading and listening.
